When I attained legal age the first thing I had in mind was a bank account. This week I've been thinking about the banking sector.I don't know what you longed for after turning 18.Am glad that I had freedom after high school..not really, this was controlled freedom.
Down memory lane.In our time(now am speaking like an old man),just turning 18 wasn't enough you had 'kutafuta I.d'.This was a tedious task. This is the time you knew the exact name for your Location, sub location..chief etc.Pharis Muchemi you remember the bicycle accident...hehe,it was a hit and run.We all survived unhurt..the bicycle rider(yours truly),the passenger and the pedestrian. Our bike had malfunctioned breaks and the pedestrian was doing what we call 'kuleta mchezo ndani ya kazi'.With all this fiasco we got out I.d's.
Back to our
main story, around the same period there is bank that had come down to
the common person who really didn't have much.Equity bank had send some
of their staff to market their agenda. To tell guys that we all had this
potential to be their clients. One sunday in our church Deliverance
church matunda we had visitors from Equity bank Eldoret branch. After the
service they were given a few minutes to tell us something about the
bank. This was an answered prayer for me.I had no money. The thought of
having a bank account to my name was comforting.
Few weeks later I went to Equity bank Eldoret branch(the one on Oginga Odinga street).I opened an account free of charge.Any time I needed to deposit money I had to go to Eldoret town.Eldoret was bae. This is how I managed to save to clear part of my high school fee arrears after completion of school.I look at the revolution that has occurred in this sector that now I can transact anywhere.
I miss my teenage life,if you ever sat at Paul's bakery and confectionery for a coke and some 'difficult' cake then 64 was your town.Sisibo.64 is Eldoret.Am glad the gang we hang out with ( Evans W. Simiyu remember this)was fascinated with coke, not that there was a catchy advert. There was never a thought of liquor in our thoughts.Eldoret west was the place we had catchy tees and shirts.
I can almost picture myself in that Cybercafe called 'Kissnet'.Like any city there were places you had no business to do there..West Indies.I tend to think West Indies was the 'Parklands' of that town then.
Life has been so busy that we no longer stop at 'Maili tisa',walk to those grass thatched vibandas and order kuku.I miss hearing an old kale man saying 'Nimeshiba ile akuna' ..hehe...The only thing I don't miss are those mathrees from eldoret..they 'pack' people like potatoes..I miss the SDA choir during high school,I miss science congress and maths contests..hehe...always pause and enjoy..
I enjoy Walking through Uhuru park every evening..
:)
Enjoy your evening family
