Its valentines season. No,it's not a season,it was just
a single day,but not for single people.People got
flowers,chocolates..and other gifts.I will not delve on commenting on
whether we should be celebrating it or not.I will also not be in a
position to disclose whether I celebrated or not.All I have is an
imagination of what some people went through, some to earn the 'gentleman
tag'.If you did alot of acting I get you brother..hehe.
Campus life was that kind of life on a budget. One never dared to live beyond their means. We religiously went to those affordable eateries. In first year nobody would ever convince me(am not alone though) that 'Baghdad' and 'Kwa Lucy,Eden cafe' were not the best. This is inspite of the fact that their chapatis were almost the thickness of a polythene paper. We went there every lunch time. There was also another cafe for the 'others',it was called 'BnB',it wasn't fancy but the size of it's ugali I hear was big,the size of our legislators' salary. The more time we spent on campus we discovered better places. In the final year we kinda moved to 'whales' and 'dolphins'.They had better services. For some loyals they remained customers of 'Blessed' because of fish(read omena). Those joints made our life bearable.
When we were not having meals in those places we cooked,we did simple meals in our rooms. If we had visitors we would try to complicate the meals. It happens that we had visitors at times from as far as Ngong'(ladies hostels) bearing in mind we lived in the Eastern zone. Before the visitor(s) arrived you had to alert your room mates,an sms had to be circulated from the 'host'.For the 'image' of the room everything was staged...hehe.If my room mate was the host I could do all the messenger duties obediently.I vividly remember being send one day to the butchery to buy meat."Wee kingosh akukatie nyama poa,na usisahau hoho..",My friend would give me instructions.Hehe..you should note this was 100 shillings to do all that and other things.Well, there is a rule with boys called 'HAKUNA KUCHOMEA MSEE'.You treat someone the way you treat you boss hehe, they are always good and right whenever a lady visitor is around. We tried impressing people..hehe,but as Nokia C.e.o once said 'We never did anything wrong but we somehow lost'.We only emerged from there with lessons.
There was a vocabulary I heard during campus days,Exile is the word.My room mates were wonderful people, they were Christians..yes practising Christians.Exile-this was what happened to someone's room mates when those overnight visitors came.I used to hear this so many times. In first year second semester we had a one week break which I didnt want to travel upcountry. The break was for first and second years.A third year hosted me in Kilimambogo hostel. The hostel had single rooms,I got to see many of the so called 'come we stay' relationships. That never shifted my principles
I would still know it is wrong no matter how normal it looked.I visited a friend in Jkuat's hall 6,while still a visitor my friend's room mate send to me exile..thank God for friends,I slept elsewhere at least not in the tv room.I left here with lessons too that Wawire you are to stand out,I know we are standing out alot of us and nothing should ever make you feel that you are going against the majority..keep going. In this same period we went to aberdares for bible study and am glad we those gatherings made us grow especially the application question which everyone is would participate. This is why you will see me attending a million a one wedding because to me these are always testimonies of people I have seen holding on to that hope, that God will bring that season to do it the right way.I feel the joy in my heart to see my friends cross to the other side then I say 'He who has held their hands is holding mine..I will cross too',It will not just be a wedding but a sermon to someone..it will be a huge voice to my close friends.
One final thing at times we make bad decisions but we should never live there just because we made them. Then there is that one unending love of Jesus, that one sang in a song titled good good father. He is faithful to forgive us when we go astray.
In matters cats, our cat is still missing and each day we can't figure out if the rats ever knew this. Our lives are just safe because that information of our lost cat is still classified information. We hope it remains unknown to them.
Blessed evening folks..see it's 16th Feb and Valentines is behind us..Ama kweli..'behind every 14th of Feb there lies a hope for single people'..does such a quote even exist?,kazi kwako..hehe
