During transition period from high school to
college/university many young people find it challenging especially on
what to do with themselves. Its always a shift, before that we always
thought...aah no more morning preps after high school. Then it dawns on
you that that first week after school sleep isn't interesting
anymore...but the shocker is that no more freebies,no pocket money. So
there is this butchery in our hood that i frequent, there is a young
Amerucan(a person from Meru).I thought he was a minor,infact i
challenged him to produce a national identity card to confirm
otherwise. He did. We've been friends since then,Some time back we were
talking and he disclosed to me he was joining University in September.I
encouraged him,to study hard.He has a brother who helps out too at the
butchery,he's in form three at a local day school.I always challenge him
too.Its amazing how we can form those relationships with people and
learn more about them than what meets the eye.I have made new friends
here, kids have no barriers. My neighbour's kids Keith;a class two boy and
his small sister Tiffany.Keith is the protective big bro.Tiffany is the
demanding sister. The other day she was tellling me Kay(Keith) refused
to buy her ice cream. To her Keith should be able to save 'pocket money'
to buy her that. However playful kay is he keeps an eye on Tiffany.Last
saturday she was playing with other kids and someone offended her.She
reported to me.''Pole mum, nyamaza tutamchapa'',that was enough to make
peace.I once said living on the ground floor is like working in a
customercare department. You need patience and some kindness. You hear
that deafening knock on the gate until you go to open just to give
someone 'a piece of your mind'.On opening, its Kay...he is just
relaxed, very tired from playing.Kid are just kids. You just smile and
forget you were angry....life should never be that serious :)
